Severe Storms and Flood Threat Target Central U.S. Plains
US · Published Jun 9, 2026
A significant severe weather event is unfolding across the Central U.S., with large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes possible.
The most intense activity is expected in North and South Dakota, where a Level 2 out of 5 severe weather risk has been issued by NOAA's Storm Prediction Center.

Why It's Important?

Residents in the Dakotas, eastern Wyoming, and northwestern Nebraska face risks of baseball-sized hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes. Flash flooding is also a concern, particularly in areas with slow-moving storms. Travel disruptions, including delays at Denver International Airport, have already been reported. The combination of severe weather and flooding poses risks to property, transportation, and safety.
